About Tyler Tjelmeland

Tyler T. Tjelmeland:
Tyler Tjelmeland is a 2012 University of Iowa Graduate in Communication Studies with a Philosophy Minor. At the University of Iowa, Tyler gained a great deal of experience in sports radio at 89.7FM KRUI After working at KRUI as a production assistant for 6 months he began hosting the show “Inside the Park” with Nick Ertmer (fellow student at Iowa). Nick and Tyler hosted “ITP” a show about Major League Baseball analysis for 35 weekly shows, producing, editing, and promoting the product. After Nick graduated Tyler moved on to a leadership role within KRUI as the Sports Director of Member Development as well as Sports Director of Web Content in the Fall of 2011. He also maintained the role of Assistant Sports Director for the Fall of 2011 and Spring of 2012. In these roles Tyler set up coach and athlete interviews for KRUI as well as live on-location remote broadcasts from local eating establishments (Sports Column: Sports Bar, River Room Recreational Center).
He was the creator and host of “Sports Squawk” a show formed around the same premise as ESPN’s “Around The Horn” with Tony Reali who is one of Tyler’s sports media icons. Tjelmeland also developed and hosted “B1G Talk” and “Full-Court Press” on KRUI. He was a frequent guest on “Sports Lunch” “You Can Put it On The Board” and “From the Cheap Seats.” Tyler also hosted the College Football PreGame show LIVE on Football Saturday’s in Iowa City for the Iowa Football team on KRUI.
Tyler interned in the summer of 2011 with KZIA Inc. (Z102.9, 1600AM KGYM/ESPNRADIO) in Cedar Rapids, Iowa where he was a promotions intern, aiding in numerous promotional events with local businesses. Upon the conclusion of the summer internship KZIA Inc. offered Tyler a part-time position as an on-air weekend personality on the Top 40 station (Z102.9) as well as a street-teamer for promotional events.
After working in promotions and on-air on the FM side of the station for 4 months the opportunity arose for Tyler to begin working as a fill-in host during the drive-time show on 1600AM KGYM/ESPNRADIO on “Balbinot & Brommelkamp.” After filling in as host, he stayed on in production for “Balbinot and Brommelkamp” as well as “The Gym Class” with Mark Dukes and Scott Unash
Tyler absolutely loves doing radio as well as writing about EVERYTHING Sports Related. He is a huge Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago Cubs, and Chicago Bears fan, Zach Johnson, Rickie Fowler and Tiger Woods fan.
